Slave to the music
How much does music really influence our lives?
Probably a whole lot more than you ever thought it did..
Really, if you contemplate it, music governs the way we act, the way we dress, the people we choose to be friends with.
Take the different kinds of stereotypical teenage groups for instance.. music controls everything.
There's the "gangstas".. the ones who listen to 50 Cent and Obie Trice and the like.
The goths.. they listen to.. bands who's names escape me. I really don't care for goth music.. nor do I care for rap music.. however it's kind of inescapable as it's so mainstream now.
Then there's the teenyboppers. I love the teenyboppers for one reason; they're not afraid to be who they really are. And admit their shocking music taste but not give a damn. They can listen to all the Britney, Christina, Delta and Robbie they want as long as they don't pretend that they don't. Did that make sense?
On the other hand there's the "posers" (and I really hate using that word now). The ones who like Eminem, Simple Plan, Green Day, and insult anybody who doesn't, calling them lame, weird, soft. They're the ones who sing to their iPods, who believe their music is the greatest and the whole world needs to hear it.
Then there's the geriatrics. The ones who never listen to the radio, who never give other music a chance, who never listen to any new music. The world is a far, far worse place without the Sex Pistols and AC/DC. Don't get me wrong, I love AC/DC. But not exclusively AC/DC. I have a cousin like that.. anyone who was even classed in the same genre as them he hated.. because nobody could ever be as good as them.
The final group is the uh.. well, I don't have a name for them yet. The ones who like rock. And not just one style, lots of different styles. Punk, Indie, Metal, Rock & Roll. Whatever. Most of it sounds the same anyway. Old bands, new bands, everything.
Of course there are other types of people who like other types of things. The minority groups as I call them. Like the emos. Those who like trance music. The 80's hair metalerers. That kind of stuff.
See.. most people can be grouped according to their music taste. However here it seems to be different to other places.. the groups mingle a bit more. There's more acceptance.
It would really be wonderful if everyone could accept each other for their music tastes. However I doubt that I would ever be best friends with someone who goes to Simple Plan concerts with studs, dyed black hair, a shirt that says "Punk" and calls themselves hardcore.
But that's me. And music really does control my life.
